Saturday, Aug. 16, 2008 — Tropical Storm Fay is working her way through the Caribbean Sea, with a projected path that will send her alongside Florida’s west coast, or perhaps right up the center of the state.
The American Red Cross Polk County Chapter is spending the weekend in preparation for the approaching storm by contacting volunteers, checking and rechecking equipment, rehearsing procedures, and watching the weather.
Don’t wait for Tropical Storm Fay to become a hurricane. Prepare now: Be Red Cross Ready. Get a kit, make a plan, and be informed. Double check your disaster supplies kit. Rehearse your plans to shelter or evacuate. Check that all the equipment you need is in good working order, and contact family and friends to make sure your support network is in place. Also, follow your local news and weather reports in print, television, radio, and the Internet for the latest on this storm.
