LAKELAND, FL (Sept. 10, 2007)βOn Monday, Sept. 10, local American Red Cross volunteers responded to a multi-family fire that damaged eight three-bedroom apartments at 5100 N. Socrum Loop, in northern Lakeland. Within three hours of being called, the American Red Cross Polk County Chapter had provided seven of the families β 17 adults and 19 children β with assistance for their immediate emergency needs, with such things as temporary shelter, emergency assistance for food and clothing, and comfort kits (hygiene kits). Volunteers are working to contact the eighth family to provide what assistance they need.
